Privacy Policy for Fitter

Last updated: 5 October 2026

Fitter ("the app") is a fitness tracking app. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.

Short version

What the app stores on your phone

This data is saved in a private database inside the app's own storage. Removing the app deletes it.

Your Fitter account (optional)

If you choose Profile → Continue with Google, Fitter signs you in with Firebase Authentication, a Google service. Fitter receives your Google account's name, email address and profile picture link, and Firebase gives your account a random user ID.

While you are signed in, Fitter keeps a copy of this data in your account so you can use it on another phone:

Not synced: steps from Health Connect (only the totals you choose to put on the Steps Ranking are uploaded, see below), and reminder times (these stay on each phone).

Where it is stored. In Google Cloud Firestore (part of Firebase), in Google's Mumbai (asia-south1) region. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest by Google.

Who can see it. The database only lets your signed-in account read or write your data. The one exception is Steps Ranking: if you join it, your ranking entries are visible to other signed-in Fitter users (see below). The developer can technically view the database through the Firebase console, and will only do so to answer a request from you or to investigate abuse. Google processes the data as our service provider under the Firebase terms.

What it is used for. Only to back up your data and sync it between your phones. It is not used for advertising or profiling and is not shared with or sold to anyone.

How long it is kept. Until you delete it:

App integrity checks (App Check)

To stop other apps and scripts from misusing Fitter's servers, the app uses Firebase App Check with Google Play Integrity. When the app talks to Firebase, Google Play checks that it is the genuine Fitter app from Google Play on a real device and passes a short-lived integrity token to Firebase. These checks don't include your fitness data. Firebase also uses a random per-install identifier and the app's version information to run its services.

Usage analytics (Amplitude)

To learn which features are used and where the app can be better, Fitter sends usage events to Amplitude, an analytics service that processes them for us. For example: a screen was opened, a workout was started or finished, a run was finished (its distance and duration), a glass of water was logged, a reminder was switched on.

Amplitude keeps event data according to our account settings (at most as long as the account exists) and deletes it on our request. To have the events linked to your user id deleted, email us (see Contact).

Health Connect (steps)

If you allow it, Fitter reads your step count from Health Connect to show it in the app (today, by hour, and your daily history). Fitter only reads steps; it does not read any other health data and does not write anything to Health Connect. Steps stay on your phone unless you join Steps Ranking, and then only your step totals are uploaded (see below). You can withdraw this permission at any time in Health Connect settings, and the app keeps working without it.

If you join Steps Ranking, Fitter also asks for permission to read steps while the app is in the background. It uses this only to keep your ranking totals up to date (about every 30 minutes, as Android allows). If you refuse, the ranking still works and updates when you open the app.

Steps Ranking (optional)

Steps Ranking lets you compare your steps with other Fitter users on daily, weekly and monthly boards. It is off until you choose Join and confirm, and it needs you to be signed in with Google.

Location (runs)

When you start a run, Fitter asks for location access "while using the app" and reads your phone's GPS until you finish or discard the run. While a run is being recorded, Android shows a "Run in progress" notification and tracking continues with the screen off. Location is never read at other times, and Fitter does not request "all the time" location access.

Runs are saved on your phone. If you are signed in, finished runs (including their GPS route) are also stored in your account, as described above. You can delete a single run from its summary screen.

Maps

Run maps are drawn with map tiles downloaded from OpenFreeMap (openfreemap.org), which serves OpenStreetMap data. To show the right part of the map, the app requests the tiles covering the area of your run, so OpenFreeMap's servers can see your IP address and which map area was shown, as with any website. Fitter does not send your route, account or any other personal data to them. OpenFreeMap has no accounts, cookies or tracking.

Notifications

Reminders (workout, water, bedtime) are scheduled on your phone by Android. They do not involve any server and are not push notifications.

Backups you create

Profile → Export backup writes a JSON file containing your data and lets you share or save it wherever you choose (for example Google Drive). Once you share that file, it is handled by whichever app or service you picked, under their privacy policy. Fitter does not upload backup files anywhere by itself.

Deleting your account

We delete the account, all its synced data and your Steps Ranking entries within 30 days and confirm by email.

Your choices

Children

Fitter is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new "last updated" date. If a change affects data already in your account, the app will tell you before it applies.
